Today you took a test in class. How'd that go for you?
I would like two posts:
Post 1: Please tell me what you learned from this experience. Relate both the positive and challenging aspects of your work style.
Post 2: How will this experience inform or change the way you've approached the work in this class?
Note: Again, these posts must be reflective and answer the prompt. This is not a forum for critique about the class, your classmates, or me. I really want to know about you.

This experience taught me how important it is to read and understand the material before we end up having a pop quiz or test on what we were supposed to read. It has also taught me one of the key fundamentals to surviving in an honors environment.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has not changed the way that I think or operate in class. What happened did not affect me as much as the people around me. But it has made me realize how important keeping track of your work over break is. So I went and got myself a binder reminder since I did not have one.
ReplyDeleteThis test was definately a wake up call for me. During the break I only spent one night studying, which I can now see is not what I should have done. This was the kind of experience that makes me realize the bad habit that I am in and shows me that I need to get out of it.
ReplyDeleteThis test also showed me how I need to change my work habits. As I said in my first post, I only spent one night studying, which is not what I should be doing. What I should be doing is being consistent and having a repeated time to review information so I know it is remembered better. It's not only this assignment but it other classes where I've seen this. All work in this class should be reviewed many times, and with DETAIL, not with just a general idea.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has taught me that I need to make a bigger effort than the one I am making currently. There is really no positive in my style other than I have more free time to do what I want, but that is not always best for my grades. All I get out of this is a lot of pressure that causes me to only do half the effort.
ReplyDeleteThis Pop quiz has made me realize that there needs to be a change in my study habits. It has taught me that skimming over the stories a little the night before is not going to work. I now see that I should read all the stories once and then once more with a high lighter to make sure that I have all of the important information. Then the night before the quiz I should go back and read what I had highlighted to refresh my memory.
ReplyDeleteFrom this experience, I have learned that I can improve on my work habbits, more than a bit. I will admit that I do not study much because I just on memory. At times it works but like today, on the hero test, it was not effective. During the break, I read the stories but I did not completely absorb them. I would read them late at night since I had no time in the day, and of course this resulted with me forgetting important details in the stories. I am sure I even mixed up some of the stories. That was frustrating when I took the test, since I know I could have remembered better.
ReplyDeleteFrom this experience, I learned that I should understand everything we are learning and not take our assignments for granted. By not doing your assignments to the fullest and best possible, you will not succeed in honors classes. During the break, I could have used more of my free time actually reading the stories and take the time to understand the material. Taking the test helped me realize how important it is to do your assignments as best as possible so you don't become stressed when a pop test is given.
ReplyDeleteI now know that any little task Ms. G assigns is majorly important. Reading should not just be reading or skimming or looking over, the material should be absorbed and understood well. I will work as if any task I need done is for my mother, since she is the hardest person to please/impress. If I am asked to read something, I will make sure that not only do I read it but read it again, highlight important details, and even take notes if possible. I will make time in my day to work on any given tasks for this class. I should remember that I must aim high and exert more effort than usual to do well in this class.
ReplyDeleteTyler Sharp Says: From this experience i now know to read the material that miss gerber tells us to print and to make sure i understood what i read. Every litte thing the miss gerber says is extremely imortant and will not be taken lightly by me anymore.
ReplyDeleteNow I know that I need to understand all of the material in order to be prepared for all of my classes. Being prepared can also help me succeed in these classes. Glancing over the material won't help me at all, so that needs to change. I will take more time to review and make sure I know the material so I won't become stressed if we are tested on it.
ReplyDeleteThis quiz has brought to my attention that that i have to change my study habits extremely. I have to actually sit down and read the homework instead of just looking over it. From now on i will take my time and actually study the homework.

ReplyDeleteFrom this experience I learned that reading the stories once is not an effective method to learning the material. I already knew reading is an important aspect in an honors class, which is why I always make sure to do the reading. But with the reading being assigned over break remembering the details between the stories fell between the cracks. I always try to make a sheet of paper with the general ideas of things I have read just to help keep the stories in my memory but this time I did not do that and I am sure it will show in my grade. I know what methods work for me and which do not. But I got lazy over break and did not fully apply myself to the assignment.

ReplyDeleteI already knew that doing the assignments can really help improve a grade, especially in this class. This is why I always try to complete an assignment to the best of my abilities. But now I know that I can never afford to be lazy. I always need to be on top of my game and give every assignment my best effort, especially since I am in an honors class. The quiz made me see that detail is key, and every bit of information can be on a quiz. It also made me see that I need to be more organized in studying. I got all the characters confused when reading. Next time I can try making charts for the different characters to keep my thoughts organized.
After this challenging experience, I learned that I cannot take anything for granted in this English 10 Honors class. I must focus and put effort into everything Ms. Gerber asks us to complete. I enjoyed reading each story and found them very interesting and amusing. However, I thought it was confusing remembering each hero and his/her actions and accomplishments. There were too many for me to memorize at one time. I hope to improve one my memorization skills and analysis for the upcoming stories.
ReplyDeleteThis test taught me that I have to buckle down and also read more. I should have done what I was told an I would have been more prepared and also maybe got an A. I should also not just skim throughout the the stories and just read the parts that I think that are important but I just have to read the whole story.
ReplyDeleteThis experience change me because I am not going to put homework off to the last minute and I will get it done as soon as I get it. I am not going to also study a period before and I will study more and try my hardest.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has encouraged me to carry out all of the assignments in this class with more effort. I will not only read the stories, but I will also try to understand them. I realize now that this class requires more work to be done and more focus. When I complete each assignment in this class, I will try to complete it with the intentions of having a test on it the next day. By doing this, I know I should be prepared to continue in English Honors for my junior year.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has taught me how important reading the material really is. In all honesty, I spent one night at the beginning of break simply looking over the stories, which did not help at all on today's quiz. It helped me realize how crucial the reading material really is, and that these assignments are not to be taken lightly.
ReplyDeleteThis experience tells me that I need to pay more attention and really do the work. Simply glancing and skimming stories assigned obviously won't help me at all. Clearly, I must make more of an effort and change my study habits.

ReplyDeleteI learned from this experience that I needed to review all of the myths before I came to class, (so prepare better) because I did read them early in the break but forgot most of what I had read when I took the test today. I mixed up stories and I know I could've done a lot better on describing the motifs. I usually take notes when I read and this time I didn't, which probably hurt me a lot on the test. Next time I know I will do better.
From this experience I learned that I really can not wait untl the last day to start reading, and even worse I only skimmed through. Today was a needed but harsh wake up call, and now i see that you really need to give 110% in an honors class.

ReplyDeleteThis experience was a lesson to be learned from. I know that I have to do my best on every assignment in order to succeed in this class. I will come prepared to class so I don't have to get frustrated on tests like the one we took today. I will study more and take everything more seriously.
this experience was terrifying and will affect me for the rest of my life. i definitely learned from this. i realize now that it is important to read when you tell us to read. i will also definitely study harder for all of my tests.
ReplyDeleteI learned that the more I enjoy what I am learning the easier it is to learn that subject. I did not read what was online and so I adapted, using what I already knew for the test. I did not find the test very difficult although it took me a minute to remember the differences between Perseus and Theseus.
ReplyDeletein the future, i will definitely read everything carefully and several times, and make sure that i know the material. i will make sure that i am fully prepared for every test. now i know that when Ms. Gerber say read, its in my best interest to read.
ReplyDeleteThis test made me realize that I will have to read to succeed in this class and that I will enjoy this class more than I previously thought I would have.
ReplyDeleteI have learned that I need to work harder in this class and not give half the effort. reading is extremely important in an honors class. I do need to work on my study habits and make sure I read everything at least 2-3 times.
ReplyDeleteFrom this test I learned that it is necessary to read closely and understand the material. I read the myths, however I got confused on what happened in which myth. Thinking over the myths during the test took up a lot of time. If I spent more time studying the myths, this may not have happened. By scheduling and spending more time I think I can do better next time.
ReplyDeleteThis experience informed me that I have to take all work seriously, small or big. Every work counts and it would help me to learn if I put all my effort into the work. Through this experience I learned that I need to be prepared each day to succeed in not only this class but all my classes.
ReplyDeleteToday we took a test. I learned from this experience to be prepared for anything and read so indepth that I memerize all the details down to last name. Positivly I like the reading material, negativly like other students I hate quizes and tests. In my opinion there's a better way to test someone on their knowlege. For instance a writing assignment or essay on a specific subject. When it comes down to it I don't like tests, but I absolutly love mythology!
ReplyDeleteThis test showed me I have to reread many times to remember the details, so in the future I will re read the given information. Also I may make flashcards or talk about the stories with a freind. This helps me memorize the material to a greater extent.
ReplyDeleteNot one of my better test taking experiences and I have no one to blame for myself. I printed out the stories and merely scanned over the stories without paying attention to detail. It certainly would have been less stressful to take that test walking into class and having full confidence that I Ace the test. Unfortunately I got a C at best and I repeat "at best".
ReplyDeleteWhile it might be easy to look at people who have higher grades and are more articulate than me and say they do better in English because English is their subject. The reality is they probably are not any smarter than me but they care more and want to succeed and in order to be successful in this class, spending more time trying to do better should and will be a priority.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has shown me the importance of reading and not procrastinating. It shows the irresponsible side we can at times portray.
ReplyDeleteThis experience has taught me to take tests and reading more seriously as usually I just study a little bit, but as this was a challenging quiz that I did not study much for, I realize that I must study more to keep up my good grade. I have to read and read thoroughly as the test asked questions that you could only answer it by reading for detail in all the myths.
ReplyDeletethis was by far the most eye opening experience and has taught me the importance of being on top of the things that should be my number one priority. Letting things that should be most important wait for last minute has shown me that it will only lead to unorganized methods in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis experience will change me a little bit as I have been prepared for most tests and done all of my homework. I must remember important test dates and read all the myths and thoroughly. This experience has changed me because I have to take the myth tests more seriously. I should read and reread the myths to gather details before tests. I will study more and take tests more seriously in general.
ReplyDeleteFrom this experience I learned that I should not be a procrastinator and wait until the day before to start an assignment. I think that when I work under pressure I can accomplish assignments quickly, but because of this I can not complete the assignments to the best of my ability. Sometimes because I rush them at the last minute my work becomes sloppy.
ReplyDeleteThis experience is helping me to realize that procrastination is a killer to schoolwork and should not be the only resort. I am going to try to finish my work at a reasonable time and not wait to start it while I relax in the meantime. I think that if I can continue doing my work diligently, I will be less stressed and not have to worry about my homework so much.
ReplyDeleteThrough the experience I learned that it is much easier to do something when the knowledge is there. If the work is put in life is much easier. I also learned that sometimes, one person's opinion can be influential to a group and only start a progression. It was tough sometimes to get all the reading in though but if i just do it then i think i will be alright. Remembering all the names to can be tought sometime. BUt overrall i thought the experience was epic and it helped me not only academically but it also helped me to get to know and interact with people i do not think i would normally interact with and i think it helped other's to be more social around people they do not know so well and step out of their comfort zone.
ReplyDeletethis experience has taught me that the effort i have had is not enough and that i actually need to read if i want to stay in honors. it has taught me how to work and communicate with others more efficiently as well. after you gave us this test i realized that i need to do my homework and not just put it off usually.
ReplyDeleteFrom now on i will not procrastinate and do my work at 10 or 11 at night. I will do my homework as soon as possible and do it well. I will also read all the myths assigned to get a complete understanding.
ReplyDeleteI learned that I should read the stories more carefully. I have gotten away with just reading each story once, and just grasping the main ideas. This was challenging, because I had to go in depth about 3 of the stories, so it was a bit of a challenge trying to remember some of the details when I was writing the summary of three of the stories.
ReplyDeleteI will approach this class in a different way because I will read the stories more than one time, and pull out a piece of paper and take notes on the story that Im reading. That way I can grasp the whole story, and not just the main idea. I realized that the whole story is important, not just the name of the heroes and who they kill.
