Blog Assignment Twelve

Yesterday, you were led to believe (quite insidiously and adeptly I might add) you would be submitting your final research paper. BUT NO. Instead you were forced by your evil, avenging teacher to methodically plumb the depths of your paper to ensure compliance. Many of you caught huge mistakes, and some of you, on the other hand, were redeemed by the integrity of your work (nice going). Additionally, I told you that all the work we reviewed was included in the packet I had provided at the beginning of our research paper assignment. So what did you learn from this experience?

Post 1: Please relate your experience in reviewing and correcting your research paper. What will you take away from it? What will you change next time. How do you think you will change when you get to next year's English class?

Post 2: Please respond (with details) to the post of another students.

As always, posts must evidence authenticity, reflection and original thought. Please spend some time with this.(20 points)

Blog Assignment Eleven

This week we focused on the rhetorical elements of the novel All Quiet on the Western Front. You had an opportunity to divide into groups, focus on one, sometimes two elements, and then present your findings. At that time, I offered additional feedback to your comments to illustrate how an author uses rhetoric to convey the important themes of the work.

Post 1: Tell me why you think I had you do this exercise. What was the purpose. Did you have any revelations about, well, anything? How will your understandings change the way you approach literature?

Post 2: Please respond to another classmate's post.

Blog Assignment Ten

Last week we spent time dissecting the elements of the essay, with particular emphasis on the introduction and topic sentences. Many of you noted you had some breakthroughs, even epiphanies at this time. I want to hear about it.

Post 1: Tell me what you learned during this workshop. Please be specific: what you thought and what you know know. Please also tell me the next area you would like to turn our attentions.

Post 2: Please respond to another classmate's post.

Blog Assignment Nine

Last week we examined the hero archetype, with particular attention to the contributions of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. We studied Campbell's hero's journey, and then I asked you to chart the hero's journey in a movie from the AFI Top 100 films. At this point you should be not only understanding what the denotation for the hero archetype and the hero's journey but you are also able to see it in action (The Matrix) in the movie you selected. My question here runs a bit deeper.

Post 1: Please summarize your understanding of Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey. What are the personal implications of Campbell’s theory? What are the global implications? DO YOU SENSE THE AWE?????

Post 2: Please respond to another classmate's post.

Blog Assignment Eight

Today you took a test in class. How'd that go for you?

I would like two posts:

Post 1: Please tell me what you learned from this experience. Relate both the positive and challenging aspects of your work style.

Post 2: How will this experience inform or change the way you've approached the work in this class?

Note: Again, these posts must be reflective and answer the prompt. This is not a forum for critique about the class, your classmates, or me. I really want to know about you.

Blog Assignment Seven

You have read several myths, presented your myths to the class, and listened to the presentations of others. So how was the experience of listening and presenting? Did you dig the myths?

I would like two strong, reflective posts.

Post 1
Describe for me the experience of reading and retelling the myth. How did you feel about passing on these ancient stories? Did presenting give you any insights into the nature of myth itself?

Post 2
What was your experience in listening to the various presentations of your peers? Please do not use this opportunity to disparage your classmates by name, rather refer to why some of them were less engaging than others. Please do use this posting to say what you did enjoy about the myths. Did listening provide you with any real realizations or aha moments about why mythology is so enduring?

Blog Assignment Six

Today we began our presentation of the deities and their archetypes. Sooooooooooooooo
Any revelations? Tell me what strikes you about the way the Greeks looked at the experience of being human. What do these archetypes say about humanity? How hard is a thesis?

Only one post please but make sure it is insightful and reflective.
